SAN BERNARDINO — November 4, 2026. Separate City Council elections in wards 1, 2 and 4 produced early leads for Ron Alvarado, Christian Shaughnessy and Joe Salas. Each represents a different part of the city; the totals should not be combined into a citywide mayoral contest.

Ward 1: 149-vote gap

Ron Alvarado received 1,190 votes (53.22%) versus 1,041 (46.56%) for Virginia Marquez, with 11 of 22 precincts listed as reporting.

Ward 2: Shaughnessy leads Barrios

Christian Shaughnessy recorded 1,244 votes (54.18%) against Benito Barrios’ 1,046 (45.56%). Fourteen of 18 precincts were listed.

Ward 4: Salas ahead

Joe Salas recorded 2,753 votes (63.00%) and Fred Shorett 1,614 (36.93%). Twenty-one of 43 precincts were listed as reporting.

As the county continues to count eligible late-arriving, provisional and other ballots, these margins may change. Councilmembers make decisions concerning infrastructure, city services, planning and the budget, but no winner should be declared from an incomplete report.
